| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 |
| Representatives wish to recognize Father Matt Foley for his |
4 |
| bravery in apprehending two would-be burglars; and |
5 |
| WHEREAS, Father Matt Foley, 41 years old, is the pastor at |
6 |
| St. Agnes Church at 2651 South Central Park Avenue in Chicago; |
7 |
| he has been a pastor for 15 years; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, On Wednesday, June 23, 2004, two would-be burglars |
9 |
| broke into the St. Agnes Church; these two men proceeded with |
10 |
| crowbars and other tools to break open the church's donation |
11 |
| box; that donation box is reserved to help the parish and the |
12 |
| needy within the parish's community; with no regard for his own |
13 |
| safety, Father Foley confronted the two men; one of the |
14 |
| thieves, who was armed with a knife, engaged in a physical |
15 |
| altercation with Father Foley and then ran away; Father Foley, |
16 |
| remembering his rugby days, chased down the criminal and held |
17 |
| him until law enforcement officers arrived to place them into |
18 |
| custody; and |
19 |
| WHEREAS, Father Foley has once again demonstrated his |
20 |
| commitment to the service of others in place of his own safety |
21 |
| and well-being; as a man of charity and compassion, Father |
22 |
| Foley makes the neighborhood of Chicago known as the Little |
23 |
| Village a better place for everyone that lives there; |
24 |
| therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
26 |
| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
27 |
| thank Father Foley for putting the well-being of others before |
28 |
| himself and recognize the bravery it takes for a citizen to |
29 |
| apprehend two armed criminals in the process of committing a |
30 |
| crime; and be it further
