HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois are pleased to congratulate Fire Chief Bruce
4 Rodewald of the Arlington Heights Fire Department on the
5 occasion of his retirement after 33 years of service; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Chief Rodewald began his career with the Arlington
7 Heights Fire Department as a firefighter on March 22, 1971, was
8 promoted to lieutenant in 1979, to captain in 1983, and to
9 chief in 1984; he celebrated his 20th anniversary as chief on
10 May 26, 2004; and
 
11     WHEREAS, During Chief Rodewald's tenure, the Village of
12 Arlington Heights' Class 3 Insurance Services Office (ISO)
13 rating was upgraded to an ISO I rating, which is the highest
14 rating given for a municipality's fire protection services and
15 has only been achieved by about 40 fire departments in the
16 nation; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Chief Rodewald had planned on retiring in 2001,
18 upon completion of 30 years of service, but stayed on to guide
19 the department through the heightened levels of awareness and
20 preparedness necessary for fire departments following the
21 tragedy of September 11, 2001; and
 
22     WHEREAS, Chief Rodewald is part of a family that has been
23 dedicated to the fire service during portions of the 1800s,
24 1900s, and now the 21st century; his father and grandfather
25 were both firefighters in Arlington Heights, and his son is a
26 firefighter/paramedic in an area town; and
 
27     WHEREAS, Prior to his career in the fire service, Chief
28 Rodewald valiantly served his country with two tours of duty as
29 a helicopter pilot in Vietnam; therefore, be it

1     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
3 commend Fire Chief Bruce Rodewald for his long and
4 distinguished career of public service to the people of
5 Arlington Heights on the occasion of his retirement after 33
6 years of service, and we wish him well in his future endeavors;
7 and be it further
 
8     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9 presented to Fire Chief Bruce Rodewald as an expression of our
10 respect and esteem.
