HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Fannie G.
4 "Chico" Jones of East St. Louis on Friday, May 21, 2004; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Mrs. Jones was educated in the public schools of
6 East St. Louis; she received her bachelor's degree from
7 Tuskegee University and her master's degree from Webster
8 University; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Mrs. Jones was an educator at the Franklin Grade
10 School, teaching first grade until she entered the political
11 arena as the first African American to run on a Statewide
12 ticket for elected office, when she ran for Clerk of the
13 Illinois Supreme Court; and
 
14     WHEREAS, For 54 years, Mrs. Jones provided the young people
15 of East St. Louis with an appreciation for the outdoor wonders;
16 she founded a two-week camp that served the needs of over
17 15,000 young people and was the only African-American group at
18 Camp Ouatoga; she was a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority; and
 
19     WHEREAS, The passing of Fannie G. Jones has been deeply
20 felt by many, especially her son, Coach Carlton J. Jones; her
21 granddaughter, Shenise D. Jones; her grandson, Carlton J.
22 Jones, III; her sister-in-law, Harriet M. Jones; her foster
23 brother, Maurice (Helen) Sharp; her nephew, Dr. Aaron (Dr.
24 Rozalynn) Phillips; her nieces, Tunya P. Robinson, Stephanie E.
25 Jones, and Pamela Jones; her special cousin, Jackie Gandy
26 Johnson; and her many cousins, great-nieces, and other
27 relatives and friends; therefore, be it
 
28     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
29 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
30 mourn the passing of Fannie G. "Chico" Jones, and we extend our

1 deepest sympathy to her family, friends, and all who knew and
2 loved her; and be it further
 
3     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4 presented to the family of Fannie G. "Chico" Jones as an
5 expression of our sincere condolences.
