| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 |
| Representatives wish to recognize Vernal Ann Williams |
4 |
| Breashears who is retiring after 35 years as a Chicago Public |
5 |
| School educator; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, Vernal Ann Williams Breashears grew up in Forest, |
7 |
| Mississippi; she attended E.T. Hawkins High School where she |
8 |
| was involved in most activities and sports; after graduating |
9 |
| from E.T. Hawkins High, she enrolled in Jackson State College |
10 |
| and received a Dual Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary |
11 |
| and Special Education in 1967; she received her Master of |
12 |
| Education in Curriculum from DePaul University in 1978 and |
13 |
| continued post-graduated study at Westfield College, London, |
14 |
| England, National Louis University, and Chicago State |
15 |
| University; and
|
16 |
| WHEREAS, In 1967, Vernal was one of twelve teachers hired |
17 |
| by the Jackson Public School System; her assignments was |
18 |
| teacher at Lanier High School for the coming school year; in |
19 |
| 1968, Vernal and her family relocated to Chicago; she |
20 |
| immediately received a teaching position at the Arthur Dixon |
21 |
| Elementary School; she taught at Dixon for 10 years; in 1976, |
22 |
| she was transferred to Pilsen Academy where she taught for |
23 |
| fifteen years; in 1995, she was employed as the Dean of girls |
24 |
| at South Shore High School; later, she was appointed Assistant |
25 |
| Principal and in March of 2000, she became Contract Principal; |
26 |
| for the last four years, she has serviced Chicago Public |
27 |
| Schools for the Region 5 and Cluster 6 Offices assuming the |
28 |
| responsibilities of Management Support Director; and
|
29 |
| WHEREAS, Vernal is a member of the St. Ailbe Catholic |
30 |
| Church; her community service involvement includes Horizons |
31 |
| Ministry, Compassionate Friends, Friends of Special Education, |
32 |
| Local Area Network, and Delta Sigma Theta; and |
