HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to recognize Donald M. Badgley on the
4 occasion of his retirement on June 30, 2004, after 32 years at
5 Steeleville and 38 years in education; he will retire as
6 Superintendent of Steeleville Community Unit School District
7 #138; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Donald M. Badgley grew up in Grand Chain,
9 Illinois, where he attended elementary school and then
10 graduated from high school in 1962; after graduation, he
11 enrolled at Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky, and
12 earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Math and Physical
13 Education in the summer of 1966; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Don's teaching career began in 1966 in Dongola
15 where he was assigned to teach high school math; he also served
16 as the junior high basketball and baseball coach for 4 years,
17 high school assistant basketball coach for 2 years, and head
18 varsity basketball coach for 2 years; and
 
19     WHEREAS, During his tenure at Dongola, Don pursued his
20 education and in 1970 earned a Master's Degree from Southeast
21 Missouri State University in Education Administration and
22 Supervision; his career in administration began in 1972 at
23 Steeleville High School, where he served as principal until
24 1977 at which time he became the second superintendent in
25 Steeleville Community Unit Schools District's history; still
26 pursuing his education, he earned his Doctor of Philosophy
27 Degree in Education Administration in 1992 at Southern Illinois
28 University in Carbondale; and
 
29     WHEREAS, In 1967, Don married Mary Ann Craig from Karnak,
30 Illinois; the two had known each other through mutual friends
31 since high school, but did not begin dating until Don began

1 teaching in Dongola; they have two children: Wendy, who is
2 married to Barry Graskewicz, and Matt, who is married to Tracy
3 Holscher; the apples of his eye are his three granddaughters,
4 Bailey, Riley, and Abby; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Steeleville has been home to Don and his family
6 for 32 years; his involvement in the Steeleville School
7 District has been more than just a job to Don; he has supported
8 the students and the community of Steeleville as has been
9 evident in his participation at a majority of the school
10 district's athletic events and organizational functions; he
11 started the school's golf team in 1994 and has coached the team
12 since it began; his continued commitment to education, to the
13 students, and to the district has been a major contribution to
14 the success of the Steeleville School District; therefore, be
15 it
 
16     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
18 congratulate Donald M. Badgley on his retirement after many
19 years of dedication to the education profession; and we wish
20 him good health and happiness in all his future endeavors; and
21 be it further
 
22     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
23 presented to Donald M. Badgley as a token of our respect and
24 esteem.
