HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Margaret Haefliger on being named Women of the Year by the Altrusa International Club of Elgin; and

WHEREAS, Marge Haefliger is a dynamic woman of varied talents and interest; she has been a staff nurse at Sherman Hospital in Elgin for the past 32 years and a staff nurse at Fox Valley's Women's Health Care for the past 10 years; her professional career includes her position as visiting nurse and home care for Sherman Home Health and Gloria Kersten Home Care Agency; and

WHEREAS, For the past 25 years, Marge's care for the elderly has been very important to her; she worked with movement and activity programs at area nursing homes to keep the elderly active and on-the-move; and

WHEREAS, Marge has held a number of leadership roles in many local organizations, she is often the one who is the "glue" behind the scenes, making things run smoothly without a lot of public recognition and fanfare; and

WHEREAS, Her social work and volunteerism since the 1960s has been extensive; most recently, she served as a Big Sister to a young girl and remains close with the family since their recent move out of the area; she has been a reading tutor at Elgin's YWCA in the ESL Program; she has volunteered time at the Christian Appalachian Project in Kentucky and the Big Sandy Reservation in Montana; and

WHEREAS, Marge also has a very creative side; she was a founding member of Fox Valley Beaux Arts Women's Club, which supports annual arts scholarship; and she has helped the not for profit organizations as a luncheon coordinator and fund raiser; and

WHEREAS, She has been involved with the Independent Players since 1977 and has been involved behind the scenes in every aspect from publicity and ticket sales, to program ads, and host of cast parties; she served on the Board of the Elgin Area Performing Arts; and was active with St. Edward High School's major fund raiser, jubilee, in the early 1970s, and was the head of St. Lawrence Social Action Commission; and

WHEREAS, Marge truly exemplifies the Altrusa International Club key traits: she is a loyal friend; she treats all individuals with respect and dignity; she has talents in many area; and combines the arts, social service, and education together in service to her community; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Margaret Haefliger on being named Woman of the Year and wish her good health and happiness in all her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Margaret Haefliger as an expression of our respect and esteem.
