HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Each year during May, the nation observes Older
3 Americans Month to recognize the older adults in our
4 communities; and
 
5     WHEREAS, This year, the Administration on Aging has
6 selected a theme, "Aging Well, Living Well," which serves to
7 celebrate and recognize older Americans who are living longer,
8 healthier, and more productive lives; older persons are not
9 only adding years to their lives, they are also improving the
10 quality of their lives; and
 
11     WHEREAS, According to the Administration on Aging, in
12 addition to achieving a healthier lifestyle, older persons must
13 also take steps to prepare for later life; these steps include
14 understanding housing and long-term care options; gaining
15 financial literacy and knowledge of retirement pension and
16 benefits; and seeking opportunities for community
17 participation and social engagement, including access to
18 employment, volunteer, educational, and leisure activities;
19 and
 
20     WHEREAS, In honor of Older Americans Month, Clinton County
21 will be hosting Older Americans Day on May 20, 2004 at the
22 Senior Center in Carlyle; therefore, be it
 
23     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
24 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
25 recognize May as Older Americans Month and the efforts of the
26 Administration on Aging to promote healthier and more
27 productive lives for the elder citizens of this State; and be
28 it further
 
29     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
30 presented to the Area Agency on Aging of Southwestern Illinois.
