HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Mary E.
4 "Betty" Brosius of Arlington Heights on Friday, March 26, 2004;
5 and
 
6     WHEREAS, Mary E. Hopp was born and raised in Des Plaines;
7 she attended Maine Township East High School for 3 years and
8 was a member of the first graduating class at Maine Township
9 West High School in 1960; she lived her entire life in Des
10 Plaines until a recent move to Arlington Heights; her husband,
11 Dick, preceded her in death in 1979; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Mrs. Brosius believed that people deserved to be
13 surrounded by love, comfort, and care when they die; because of
14 this belief, she founded Rainbow Hospice in 1981; the hospice
15 has gone from caring for less than a dozen patients and
16 families in 1981, to serving an average of 160 patients and
17 families each day; it was started as a volunteer hospice and
18 now has over 120 professional employees and over 200 volunteers
19 with sponsorship from Advocate and Resurrection Health Care
20 Corporations; Mrs. Brosius served as the first Executive
21 Director and, except for a brief hiatus, worked for Rainbow
22 Hospice until her retirement in January of 2004; and
 
23     WHEREAS, The passing of Mary E. "Betty" Brosius has been
24 deeply felt by many, especially her daughters, Carrie (Bill)
25 Bending, Amy (Scott) Pracko, and Julie Brosius; her
26 grandchildren, Cameron, Trevor, and Shane Parker, and Samantha
27 and Matthew Pracko; her brother, Richard (Carol Ann) Hopp; her
28 dear friend, Harvey Kretschmer; her many friends; and her
29 Rainbow Hospice family; therefore, be it
 
30     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
31 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we

1 mourn the passing of Mary E. "Betty" Brosius, and we extend our
2 deepest sympathy to her family, friends, and all who knew and
3 loved her; and be it further
 
4     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5 presented to the family of Mary E. "Betty" Brosius as an
6 expression of our sincere condolences.
