| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
3 |
| State of Illinois are pleased to honor Frankie Knuckles and his |
4 |
| work as the pioneer of house music; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, While growing up in the Bronx during the 1960s, |
6 |
| Frankie's earliest musical influences were jazz artists; after |
7 |
| studying commercial art and costume design in his teens, |
8 |
| Frankie found his true calling, spinning records; he crafted |
9 |
| and began spinning at various legendary venues in New York |
10 |
| City, New York; and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, In 1977, Frankie relocated to Chicago to become |
12 |
| the resident DJ for the Warehouse, an after hours nightclub |
13 |
| where the music genre "house" derived its name from, marking a |
14 |
| pivotal event in modern music; and
|
15 |
| WHEREAS, Frankie eventually moved into the recording |
16 |
| studio, where his production and remixing skills equaled his |
17 |
| genius in the DJ booth; he has produced and remixed songs for |
18 |
| Diana Ross, Luther Vandross, Michael Bolton, Mary J. Blige, the |
19 |
| Sounds of Blackness, Michael and Janet Jackson, Toni Braxton, |
20 |
| The Pet Shop Boys, and others; he received a Grammy Award in |
21 |
| 1997, becoming the first artist to be recognized in the |
22 |
| "Remixer of the Year" category; he has served as a Governor and |
23 |
| Trustee for the New York City chapter of the National Academy |
24 |
| of Recording Arts and Sciences; and
|
25 |
| WHEREAS, As an artist, Frankie has enjoyed the success of 2 |
26 |
| Virgin Records releases, "Beyond the Mix" and "Welcome to the |
27 |
| Real World"; Frankie continues to pack dance floors with his |
28 |
| unique style; his many admirers and fans have given him the |
29 |
| nickname "the Godfather of House"; and
|
30 |
| WHEREAS, Frankie devotes and contributes much of his time |
