HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives wish to congratulate the University of 
4
Illinois Fighting Illini Men's Gymnastics team on a 
5
championship season; and
 
6
    WHEREAS, Five members of the team became All-American in 
7
seven events, the first time that has happened since 1957, and 
8
two members won championships in separate events, the first 
9
time Illinois has had two champions since 1958; and
 
10
    WHEREAS, Bob Rogers was crowned champion for pommel horse 
11
with a score of 9.775 and Justin Spring was crowned champion 
12
for the high bar competition with a score of 9.775; and
 
13
    WHEREAS, Ben Newman is All-American with a fourth place 
14
finish in the pommel horse competition and Peter Shostchuk is 
15
All-American with a fifth place finish in the pommel horse 
16
competition; and
 
17
    WHEREAS, Adam Pummer is a two time All-American with a 
18
second place finish in the vault competition and a sixth place 
19
finish in the floor exercise competition; and
 
20
    WHEREAS, Justin Spring is a two time All-American with a 
21
first place finish in the high bar competition and a fifth 
22
place finish in the parallel bars competition; and

    WHEREAS, Coach Yoshi Hayasa.

0ki was named Big Ten Coach of the Year for the third time in 
25
his career; and
 
26
    WHEREAS, Jon Valdez is the Assistant Coach and Bob Spelic 
27
is the Intern Coach, and the members of the Fighting Illini 
28
Men's Gymnastics team are Ted Brown, Mike Filla, Erik Garnett,

Nick Hand, Casey Hayasaki, Matt Michalek, Ben Newman, Adam

2004 championship season; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE

NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
7
congratulate the team members and coaches of the Fighting 
8
Illini Men's Gymnastics team on their outstanding 2004 season; 
9
and be it further

    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 
11
presented to each of the coaches and members of the team as a 
12
token of our respect and esteem and with our best wishes for 
13
future success as a team.
