HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to congratulate Hugh A. Muir of Maywood on
4 the occasion of his 95th birthday; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Mr. Muir was born in Maywood on March 2, 1909; he
6 graduated from Proviso Township High School in 1927; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Mr. Muir held his first job as a butcher at Jerry
8 F. Coughlin Meat Market and soon became manager; he and his
9 brother, Henry, purchased the Meat Market in 1950 and operated
10 the business until 1975; and
 
11     WHEREAS, He served as Assistant Fire Chief of the Maywood
12 Civil Defense Fire Department during World War II; and
 
13     WHEREAS, He signed the original charter of the Maywood
14 Chamber of Commerce in 1939 and is the Chamber's sole surviving
15 founding father; he served as Village Trustee for 28 years,
16 during which time he was Chairman of the Finance Committee and
17 Chairman of the Fire Committee; he was honored by the Village
18 of Maywood by renaming Iowa Street as Hugh A. Muir Lane in 1990
19 and being named an Honorary Lifetime Director of the Maywood
20 Chamber of Commerce Board; and
 
21     WHEREAS, Mr. Muir was featured on the cover of the 60th
22 Anniversary "Diamond Jubilee Year" edition of the 1999 Maywood
23 Community Guide; and
 
24     WHEREAS, Hugh Muir has been honored to receive a
25 Commendation from Congressman Henry J. Hyde, the
26 Maywood-Broadview Kiwanis Club Citizen of the Year Award, the
27 Person of the Year Award at the Chamber's Annual Installation &
28 Awards Banquet, and the Golden Heritage Award from Operation
29 Uplift; and

1     WHEREAS, Mr. Muir has been a lifetime participant of the
2 Boy Scouts, having served as Assistant Scoutmaster, and board
3 member of the Thatcher-Woods Area Council; and
 
4     WHEREAS, He was a member of organizations such as the
5 Illinois Municipal and Proviso Leagues; the National League of
6 Cities; the Police Pension Board; the Masonic Fraternity; the
7 Maywood Fire Department; he was named honorary member of the
8 Maywood Bataan Day Organization, and is still an active member
9 of the Maywood Alliance for Better Government since its
10 inception in 2000; and
 
11     WHEREAS, In addition, he has been a member of the Maywood
12 Lions Club since 1936, with 68 years of perfect attendance,
13 having served as President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Board
14 Member; therefore, be it
 
15     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
17 congratulate Hugh A. Muir on the occasion of his 95th birthday;
18 and be it further
 
19     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20 presented to Hugh A. Muir as an expression of our respect and
21 esteem.
