| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 |
| Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Marva D. |
4 |
| Morgan on January 29, 2004; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Marva D. Morgan was born February 26, 1959 to the |
6 |
| late James Morgan and the late Isabella Monroe; she was the |
7 |
| second of three children; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, She began her elementary education at Sol R. Crown |
9 |
| Academy; her high school education started at Lindbloom and was |
10 |
| completed at Jones Commercial in 1977; she attended Robert |
11 |
| Morris Business College and completed her college education at |
12 |
| Alabama State University; and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, Ms. Morgan dedicated her life to working on behalf |
14 |
| of humane and social causes in the black community; some of her |
15 |
| endeavors include the Cook County Prison Ministry, where she |
16 |
| fought to ensure the inmates well being upon release; she was |
17 |
| also an advocate for helping the mentally ill; she worked as a |
18 |
| journalist for the North Lawndale Community Newspaper under |
19 |
| Isaac Lewis; and
|
20 |
| WHEREAS, Her work was outstanding in the political arena; |
21 |
| she spent countless hours circulating petitions for candidates |
22 |
| for election; she worked with several dignitaries, and had a |
23 |
| close and personal relationship with State Representative |
24 |
| Arthur Turner; she also worked with Congressman Danny Davis; |
25 |
| she was a political liaison at Lawndale Terrace and dedicated |
26 |
| much of her time to Lawndale Mental Health Center; and
|
27 |
| WHEREAS, Ms. Morgan accepted Christ at an early age; she |
28 |
| was a faithful member of Westlawn Gospel Chapel and Progressive |
29 |
| Baptist Church where she was baptised at age 23; she was also |
30 |
| and honorary member of Apostolic Church of God; and |
