HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois wish to thank Reverend José Landaverde for
4 his many contributions to the Latino Union of Chicago; and
 
5     WHEREAS, The Latino Union of Chicago is a community-based
6 organization; its central mission is to work with low-income
7 immigrant workers in order to provide the tools necessary to
8 collectively improve their social and economic conditions;
9 since its inception, the Latino Union has worked to develop
10 many community leaders who have moved the immigrant worker
11 struggle forward by volunteering their time in a variety of
12 ways; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Reverend Landaverde, a founding member of the
14 Latino Union of Chicago, has served as the Executive Director
15 of the organization and has contributed much to the struggle
16 for worker rights in Chicago and beyond; an immigrant from El
17 Salvador, Reverend Landaverde has worked tirelessly to promote
18 the immigrant worker struggle and the creation of democratic
19 Workers' Centers as a long-term solution to a variety of issues
20 facing Chicago; and
 
21     WHEREAS, Reverend Landaverde is stepping down from his
22 position as Executive Director of the Latino Union and will be
23 joining the organization's board of directors as of January
24 2004; he is being honored for his many contributions at a
25 farewell event on Saturday, December 20, 2003; therefore, be it
 
26     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
27 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
28 thank Reverend José Landaverde for his many contributions to
29 the Latino Union of Chicago and especially for his work on
30 behalf of immigrant workers; and be it further

1     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to Reverend José Landaverde as an expression of our
3 respect and esteem.
