| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |

| State of Illinois
learned with regret of the death of Mary |
| 4 |
| Russell on Friday, October 17, 2003;
and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Russell was born on July 24, 1905 in Tate |
| 6 |
| County, Como,
Mississippi to Council and Mary Edwards; she was |
| 7 |
| the last surviving of 16
children born to Mr. and Mrs. Edwards; |
| 8 |
| and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Russell was educated in Tate County; she |
| 10 |
| became a
resident of Chicago in 1951; she worked as an |
| 11 |
| industrial laborer for Listen
Industrial Factory; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Russell was a member of the Order of the |
| 13 |
| Eastern Star; she was
a faithful and willing worker and member |
| 14 |
| of Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist
Church; she was the mother |
| 15 |
| of 8 children, 4 of whom preceded her in death; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Russell will be remembered as loving |
| 17 |
| grandmother to 44
grandchildren; she gave each grandchild going |
| 18 |
| away to college and each
grandchild getting married the gift of |
| 19 |
| a hand made quilt; and
|
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Mary Russell has been deeply felt |
| 21 |
| by many, especially
her children, Laura Price, Catherine |
| 22 |
| Colvin, Leo Garrett, and A.G. (Katie)
Garrett; and her |
| 23 |
| grandchildren, Martha Boyden, Kimberly Colvin, State
|
