| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
3 |
| State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Harlan R. |
4 |
| Hosch of Danville on Wednesday, November 19, 2003; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Hosch was born on October 20, 1920 in Danville |
6 |
| to Harry and Julie Linne Hosch; he graduated from Danville High |
7 |
| School and Ohio University in Athens, Ohio; he also attended |
8 |
| the University of Illinois; he married Jane Royse on February |
9 |
| 24, 1946 in Danville; and |
10 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Hosch valiantly served his country in the U.S. |
11 |
| Navy aboard a destroyer in the South Pacific during World War |
12 |
| II and on another destroyer during the Korean War; he served in |
13 |
| the U.S. Navy Reserves and retired as a commander; and |
14 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Hosch served as Chief Probation Officer for |
15 |
| Vermilion County, as Vermilion County Treasurer from 1962 to |
16 |
| 1966, as U.S. Marshal from 1969 to 1974, as Newell Township |
17 |
| Supervisor, and as Vermilion County Sheriff from 1958 to 1962 |
18 |
| and 1966 to 1970; during his tenure as sheriff, he was |
19 |
| responsible for getting marked units, putting the officers in |
20 |
| uniform, and giving officers the power to write tickets; and |
21 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Hosch was a member of Bowman Avenue United |
22 |
| Methodist Church for over 60 years and served on the board; he |
23 |
| was active in Olive Branch Masonic Lodge #38 and Danville |
24 |
| Consistory for more than 50 years; he was also a member of |
25 |
| Ansar Shrine, Eastern Illinois Shrine Club, and Gao Grotto; he |
26 |
| was a past commander of American Legion Post #210; he is |
27 |
| remembered as a friendly individual with a sense of humor and |
28 |
| an interest in people; he enjoyed sports and golf; and |
29 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Mr. Hosch has been deeply felt by |
30 |
| many, especially his wife, Jane; his children, Luana (James) |
