093_HR0564 LRB093 14245 HSS 20216 r 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of 3 the State of Illinois were saddened to learn of the death of 4 Ozella Faye McGavock Mason on September 26, 2003; and 5 WHEREAS, Mrs. Mason was born on November 8, 1911, to 6 Laura Mae Lewis and Randall Horton McGavock, Jr.; she 7 attended Forestville Elementary School, Englewood and Wendell 8 Phillips High Schools, and Crane Junior College; during her 9 school days, she was an active member of the Sionilli 10 Adelphia Girls' Club; and 11 WHEREAS, In 1929, she met Charles Gay Morrow when they 12 both played basketball as a hobby, he with the Belvideres and 13 she with their sister team, the Val Donnas; the following 14 year, they were married and to this union, two sons were 15 born, Charles II and Byron; and 16 WHEREAS, In the early 1940s, Mrs. Mason was employed by 17 Illinois Bell as a service representative and remained there 18 until her retirement; she was a member of Old Friends of 19 Greater Chicago and the Chicago Couple Club; and 20 WHEREAS, Mrs. Mason enjoyed traveling and cherished her 21 memories of Japan, Spain, Mexico, Brazil, and the Caribbean; 22 she especially loved traveling to California to visit her 23 grandchildren and their families; and 24 WHEREAS, In 1982, Ozella Mason married Daniel W. Mason 25 whom she had met several years earlier when he shared a 26 hospital room with her brother; she was preceded in death by 27 her sons, Charles II and Byron, her half-brother, Leonard 28 McGavock, her brother Randall III, and a sister, Mercedes 29 Roberts; and 30 WHEREAS, The passing of Ozella Faye McGavock Mason has 31 been deeply felt by many, especially her husband, Daniel; her -2- LRB093 14245 HSS 20216 r 1 sisters, Gwendolyn Dyett Burks and Nasomiruth M. Scott; her 2 stepson, Daniel W. Mason, Jr.; her grandchildren, State 3 Representative Charles Morrow III (Sherri), Cathy Carter 4 (Craig), and Kelly Bradford (Patrick); her 5 great-grandchildren, Charles IV, Micheal, Stephen, CaLynn, 6 Craig, Jr., Camera, Brittany, Blaike, and Blaire; her niece, 7 Donna L. Scott; and her nephews, Louis and Lawrence Roberts; 8 therefore, be it 9 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 10 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 11 we mourn the passing of Ozella Faye McGavock Mason, and we 12 extend our deepest sympathy to her family, friends, and all 13 who knew and loved her; and be it further 14 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 15 presented to the family of Mrs. Mason as an expression of our 16 deepest sympathy.
