093_HR0558 LRB093 13981 HSS 19391 r 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of 3 the State of Illinois wish to congratulate Furst-McNess 4 Company on 95 years of operation in the State; and 5 WHEREAS, Furst-McNess Company was started in 1908 in 6 Freeport; the company served area farmers and small town 7 people with a quality line of livestock remedies and 8 household products; the company was founded by Frank Furst, a 9 young Freeport lawyer, and Frederick McNess, a pharmacist; 10 and 11 WHEREAS, In the late 1950s, Furst-McNess met farmers' 12 needs for vitamin/mineral premixes to be used in making 13 livestock rations on the farm; midwestern farmers were 14 provided these premixes out of the Freeport plant that serves 15 as the company's headquarters; and 16 WHEREAS, Furst-McNess is committed to being a major 17 independent agribusiness nutrition company serving the dairy, 18 beef, and swine industries with a complete line of McNess 19 mineral and premix products, custom formulated manufactured 20 livestock feeds, wet brewers grain, commodity merchandising, 21 and nutrition consulting; and 22 WHEREAS, Furst-McNess also services the food and beverage 23 industries by establishing a market for their waste streams 24 as economical livestock feeding ingredients; the company uses 25 local business leaders and enthusiastically supports 26 continuous learning throughout the organization by providing 27 staff with superior nutrition training and advanced 28 technology; and 29 WHEREAS, Terrapin Ridge is the specialty foods brand of 30 Furst-McNess Company; Terrapin Ridge produces catsup, 31 mustards, sauces, dry glazes, mustard dressings, mustard seed -2- LRB093 13981 HSS 19391 r 1 oil, sweet condiments, sugars, and garnishing sauce; it is 2 named for Terrapin Ridge, located in northwest Illinois, 3 which was named by Native Americans who believed the terrain, 4 with its scaling ridges, looked like a turtle shell; and 5 WHEREAS, Furst-McNess was the first company to produce 6 trial-size bottles for its products; the company was also a 7 leader in protecting its customers by providing tamper 8 resistant packaging; therefore, be it 9 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 10 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 11 we congratulate Furst-McNess Company on 95 years of operation 12 in the State of Illinois; and be it further 13 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 14 presented to Furst-McNess Company as an expression of our 15 esteem.
