 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members of the House of  Representatives  of
 3    the  State of Illinois wish to congratulate Bishop Charles E.
 4    Davis, D.D. on  the  occasion  of  his  80th  birthday  which
 5    occurred on October 2, 2003; and

 6        WHEREAS,  Bishop  Davis  has  served as pastor of Indiana
 7    Avenue Pentecostal Church of God since April of 1970; he  was
 8    elevated  to  the  bishopric  in  1986; he and his wife of 43
 9    years, Dr. Geraldine Olivia Davis, served side by side in all
10    of his endeavors, until her passing in September of 1998; and

11        WHEREAS, Bishop  Davis  is  the  diocesan  of  the  First
12    Episcopal  District  of  the  Pentecostal  Assemblies  of the
13    World, encompassing New York State and Canada; he has  served
14    in  many decision-making positions within the organization on
15    the local  and  national  level,  including  service  as  the
16    Illinois District Council Assistant Chairman and Chairman, as
17    the  Brotherhood  Director,  as the National Lay Director, on
18    the  Rules  and  Procedure  Committee,  as   a   member   and
19    Coordinator  of  the Convention Committee, on the Finance and
20    Budget Committee, and as a member of the Executive Board; and

21        WHEREAS, Bishop  Davis  holds  several  degrees;  he  has
22    bachelor's  degrees  in  liberal  arts  and Bible; he holds a
23    master's degree in theology and a doctorate in divinity; and

24        WHEREAS,  Bishop  Davis  is  a  strong  man   of   faith,
25    fortitude, and vision; he is a man of exemplary character and
26    stands  for  what he believes in; his community support shows
27    through in his community outreach projects and he  is  highly
28    respected   both  in  religious  and  non-religious  circles;
29    therefore, be it

30        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
31    NINETY-THIRD  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

 1    we congratulate Bishop Charles E. Davis, D.D. on the occasion
 2    of his 80th birthday; and be it further

 3        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
 4    presented to Bishop Davis as an expression of our esteem.
