093_HR0518 LRB093 14077 HSS 19493 r 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of 3 the State of Illinois wish to congratulate Miss Nicole Rossow 4 on being named the 2003 State of Illinois Miss Poppy; and 5 WHEREAS, Nicole was born on July 28, 1992; she joined the 6 Green Rock Legion Junior Auxiliary Unit 1233 in 1992; she 7 served as President of the unit from 1997 to 1998 and 1998 to 8 1999; she has held the offices of Chaplin, Sergeant-At-Arms, 9 and Vice President at Green Rock/Colona Unit 1233 Junior 10 Auxiliary; and 11 WHEREAS, Miss Rossow held the office of Personal Page for 12 the 15th District Auxiliary President from 1998 to 1999, 2000 13 to 2001, and 2001 to 2002; she has also served as the 15th 14 District Junior Auxiliary Assistant Sergeant-At-Arms, 15 Sergeant-At-Arms, and Chaplin; she was personnel escort for 16 the State of Illinois Department Commander Elden Madden at 17 the Junior Auxiliary Convention 2001; and 18 WHEREAS, Miss Rossow is active in her community; when not 19 attending school, she helps at the local food pantry; she is 20 a member of the Green Rock First Southern Baptist Church and 21 also a member of the choir; and 22 WHEREAS, During her tenure as 15th District Miss Poppy, 23 she has discussed the poppy program and had her photograph 24 taken with Governor Blagojevich, Department of Illinois 25 Legion and Auxiliary Officers of the past and present, the 26 National Commander and President, and other local and State 27 officials; and 28 WHEREAS, In July of 2003, Miss Rossow assisted with the 29 Hamburger Fry and Bingo sponsored by the 15th District of the 30 American Legion held at the Quincy Veterans Home; she assists 31 with distributing Christmas baskets to the needy during the -2- LRB093 14077 HSS 19493 r 1 holidays; she aids in the Colona Police Department Benevolent 2 Fund Halloween party for kids; and 3 WHEREAS, Miss Rossow has been distributing poppies in her 4 community since she was 2 years old; at the Illinois State 5 Convention in 2003, Miss Rossow received the position of 6 State of Illinois Miss Poppy; and 7 WHEREAS, The poppies which Miss Rossow distributes are 8 made in veterans homes throughout the State; they are 9 purchased by American Legion Posts, Auxiliaries, and Junior 10 Auxiliaries, with all proceeds going to the veterans, and 11 then distributed to the public; therefore, be it 12 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 13 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 14 we congratulate Miss Nicole Rossow on being selected to be 15 the State of Illinois Miss Poppy for 2003; and be it further 16 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 17 presented to Miss Rossow as an expression of our esteem.
