093_HR0467 LRB093 13258 HSS 18527 r 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of 3 the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of 4 Lawrence Washington on Wednesday, September 3, 2003; and 5 WHEREAS, Mr. Washington was born on June 24, 1946 in 6 Hazen, Arkansas to Charlie and Mattie Washington; he moved to 7 Gary, Indiana where he attended Pulaski Grammar School and 8 Roosevelt High School; he attended Malcom X College in 9 Chicago; and 10 WHEREAS, Mr. Washington valiantly served his country in 11 the U.S. Army from 1968 until 1970; he was a Viet Nam Combat 12 Veteran; he received an honorable discharge with the rank of 13 Sergeant in addition to many medals and awards; and 14 WHEREAS, Mr. Washington married Inez Ivy on December 15, 15 1970; he had an extensive work history with 21 years at 16 Motorola/Quasar in Melrose Park and the Chicago Park 17 District; the last 5 years of his life were spent working 18 under Secretary of State Jesse White; he took great pride in 19 his job; and 20 WHEREAS, Mr. Washington was ordained and was active in 21 his church on the Deacon Board, as Church Treasurer, Trustee, 22 and the Executive Church Board; he enjoyed bowling and 23 basketball; and 24 WHEREAS, The passing of Mr. Washington has been deeply 25 felt by many, especially his wife, Inez; his sons, James and 26 Devon; his mother, Mattie Washington; his siblings, Charlene 27 Ella Olive (Cornelius), Willie Washington (Glenda), Geraldine 28 Hawthorne, Charlie Washington Jr., and Evelyn Johnson 29 (Avery); his mother-in-law, Lannie C. Ivy; his godchild, 30 Raven Bell; and his many other relatives and friends; 31 therefore, be it -2- LRB093 13258 HSS 18527 r 1 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 2 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 3 we mourn the passing of Lawrence Washington and extend our 4 deepest sympathy to his friends, family, and all who knew and 5 loved him; and be it further 6 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 7 presented to the family of Mr. Washington as an expression of 8 our sincerest condolences during their time of bereavement.
