 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members of the House of  Representatives  of
 3    the  State  of Illinois learned with deep regret of the death
 4    of Laura Washington on Wednesday, August 13, 2003; and

 5        WHEREAS, Mrs. Washington was born on April  12,  1902  in
 6    Arkansas  City, Arkansas, to George and Melvina Reed; she was
 7    the oldest of 9 children and was preceded in death  by  7  of
 8    her siblings; she married Reverend Shed Washington; and

 9        WHEREAS,  Mrs.  Washington  moved  to  Chicago  where she
10    joined Beautiful Zion Missionary Baptist  Church,  where  she
11    served  faithfully  as  Pastor  and  Nurses  Aide; later, she
12    served on the Mother's Board; and

13        WHEREAS, The passing of Laura Washington has been  deeply
14    felt  by  her  sister,  Myrtle Blackman, and her many nieces,
15    nephews, and friends; therefore, be it

16        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
17    NINETY-THIRD  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
18    we mourn the passing of Mrs. Laura Washington, and  we  offer
19    our deepest sympathy to her friends, family, and all who knew
20    and loved her; and be it further

21        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
22    presented to the  family  of  Mrs.  Laura  Washington  as  an
23    expression of our sincere condolences.
