 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members of the House of  Representatives  of
 3    the  State  of  Illinois were deeply saddened to learn of the
 4    death of Harriet P. O'Donnell of Chicago on Thursday, May 22,
 5    2003; and

 6        WHEREAS, Mrs. O'Donnell was born on April  5,  1938;  she
 7    was a lifelong resident of Chicago and was very active in her
 8    community; she was married to C. Ken O'Donnell; and

 9        WHEREAS,  Mrs.  O'Donnell  worked  as a consultant to the
10    City  of  Chicago  Police  Department   Chicago   Alternative
11    Policing  Strategy  (CAPS  Program)  Area 3 which consists of
12    helping to develop and implement special projects  for  CAPS;
13    and

14        WHEREAS,  Mrs.  O'Donnell  was  a long-time member of the
15    Amundsen Local School Council;  a  mainstay  of  the  Greater
16    Rockwell  Organization  (GRO),  which she helped to create; a
17    leader of the Ravenswood Community Council;  former  chairman
18    of  B.U.I.L.D.  Inc.;  the  city-wide coordinator of the Kids
19    Helping Kids walk-a-thon, and a volunteer for  the  Cambodian
20    Association of Illinois; she was also a member of the Chicago
21    Parent  Teacher  Association,  a  consultant  to the Illinois
22    State Board of Education, and served as Special Assistant  to
23    Governor Thompson for Child Safety; and

24        WHEREAS,  Mrs.  O'Donnell  was  the  Chairman of the 19th
25    Police District Advisory Council and Court  Advocacy  Program
26    from  1997 to 2000 and also served as the training leader for
27    the Court Advocacy Program of Area 3 since 1995; she  was  an
28    active  member  of the Chicago Crime Commission and the Urban
29    Crime Committee from 1988 to 1997; she and her husband worked
30    with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scout troops at  Luther  Memorial
31    Church; and

 1        WHEREAS,  Mrs.  O'Donnell has been honored many times for
 2    extensive community service including a public service  award
 3    from  the  Lincoln  Square  Chamber of Commerce and induction
 4    into the 2003 Chicago Senior Citizens Hall of Fame; and
 5        WHEREAS, The passing of Harriet  P.  O'Donnell  has  been
 6    deeply  felt  by  all who knew her, including her husband, C.
 7    Ken;  her  children,  Mark  and  Ann  (Marty)  Kutschke;  her
 8    grandson,    Joshua    (Nicole)    Calderon,     Sr.;     her
 9    great-grandchild, Joshua Calderon, Jr.; and her sister Judith
10    (Al) Simons; therefore, be it

11        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
12    NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS,  that
13    we  mourn  the  passing  of Harriet P. O'Donnell, who will be
14    remembered as a great citizen of the Chicagoland area; and be
15    it further

16        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
17    presented  to  the  family  of  Harriet  P.  O'Donnell  as an
18    expression of our  deepest  sympathy  during  their  time  of
19    bereavement.
