 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The  institution  of  marriage  is  one  of  the
 3    cornerstones  upon which our society is built, and a marriage
 4    that has achieved a notable longevity is truly  a  model  for
 5    the people of Illinois; and

 6        WHEREAS,  It  has come to our attention that Mr. and Mrs.
 7    Martin  Vota  of  Taylorville  will  celebrate  the  fiftieth
 8    anniversary of their marriage; and

 9        WHEREAS, Martin J. Vota and Dorothy R. Spisak were united
10    in holy matrimony on May 30, 1953  at  Holy  Rosary  (Slovak)
11    Catholic  Church  in  Chicago  after  meeting at Lake 26 near
12    Spooner, Wisconsin in 1951; and

13        WHEREAS, Dorothy was raised in the Roseland  neighborhood
14    of  Chicago  by her father, John, and her mother, Anna, where
15    she learned that the love of a strong family  was  a  key  to
16    happiness;  she  graduated  from  High  School in Chicago and
17    worked  at  Hart,  Schafner,  and  Marx  and  Celotex  as   a
18    bookkeeper; and

19        WHEREAS,  Dorothy  left the workforce in 1953 to become a
20    wife, mother, and a homemaker; and

21        WHEREAS, Martin was raised in Langleyville by Martin  and
22    Katie  Vota  where he learned from his parents that hard work
23    and  lasting  friendships  were  a  richness  unsurpassed  by
24    wealth; and

25        WHEREAS,  Martin  Vota  left   his   family   farm   near
26    Langleyville  in the early 1930s following the early death of
27    his father to join the Conservation Corps to help support his
28    mother; he also served his country during World War II in the
29    United States Army Infantry in Southern France in the  Colmar
30    pocket; and

 1        WHEREAS,  Following  World  War  II,  Martin  returned to
 2    Chicago and enrolled in radio repair school to learn a trade;
 3    he later upgraded his  skills  in  the  field  of  television
 4    repair; and

 5        WHEREAS,  Martin  and Dorothy moved to Decatur where they
 6    opened the family  business,  Decatur  Television  Engineers;
 7    moving  their  business  to  Bulpitt in 1966, and following a
 8    destructive fire, they moved their  business  to  Kincaid  in
 9    1972; and

10        WHEREAS,  In  1966,  Dorothy  joined Martin in the family
11    business as the bookkeeper where they worked  together  until
12    their retirement in 1988; and

13        WHEREAS,  Martin  and  Dorothy  are the loving parents of
14    Cathy, Martin, Cindy, Lori, and Robin; and  the  grandparents
15    of  Heidi  Vota,  Matthew Arnold, Arika Arnold, Katie Arnold,
16    Andy Drea, Keegan Ward, Haylen Vota, and Bridget Drea; and

17        WHEREAS, The respect for marriage  reaches  ones  of  its
18    highest  plateaus  when  a  couple such as Martin and Dorothy
19    Vota celebrate their golden anniversary; and

20        WHEREAS, Martin and Dorothy Vota stand as examples of the
21    best of our society, and their  love  and  devotion  to  each
22    other  and to their family and friends serve as a reminder to
23    all  that  hard  work,  dedication,  and  love  can  make   a
24    difference in today's world; therefore, be it

25        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
26    NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS,  that
27    we  congratulate  Martin  and Dorothy Vota on the occasion of
28    their fiftieth wedding anniversary; that we commend them  for
29    achieving  a  long  and happy marriage, blessed with children
30    and grandchildren and rich in friendships, and that  we  wish
31    them  happiness  and  good  health  in  the future; and be it

 2        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
 3    presented  to Martin and Dorothy Vota as an expression of our
 4    respect and esteem.
