093_HR0330 LRB093 11955 KEF 16441 r 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The institution of marriage is one of the 3 cornerstones upon which our society is built, and marriage 4 that has achieved a notable longevity is truly a model for 5 the people of Illinois; and 6 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Mr. and Mrs. 7 Edward Drea of Springfield will celebrate the fiftieth 8 anniversary of their marriage; and 9 WHEREAS, Edward F. Drea and Doris M. Reynolds were united 10 in marriage on June 20, 1953 at St. Rita Catholic Church in 11 Kincaid by the Most Reverend Father Hart; and 12 WHEREAS, Doris grew up on a farm where she learned the 13 core values of strong family and a loving home from her 14 parents Jesse and Hazel Reynolds; and 15 WHEREAS, Following the early death of his father, Ed was 16 raised by his mother Hettie during the Great Depression and 17 the Midland Mine Wars and learned that love and respect for 18 God and Family will overcome hardship and violence; and 19 WHEREAS, Edward Drea served his country during World War 20 II in the United States Army Air Corps; during his service he 21 was a radio operator on a B-24 Bomber in the South Pacific; 22 and 23 WHEREAS, Following World War II, Edward returned to the 24 Illinois Midland and worked as a Coal Miner at Peabody Mine 25 #8 in Tovey; he later transferred to Peabody Coal Company 26 Mine #10 in Pawnee where he worked as a Union Coal Miner and 27 rose through the ranks to the position of Assistant 28 Superintendent; and 29 WHEREAS, Living on the farm, Doris also worked at the 30 Kincaid Dress Factory as a seamstress and later worked for -2- LRB093 11955 KEF 16441 r 1 the Taylorville School District and St. Vincent Memorial 2 Hospital while also being a mother, wife and homemaker; and 3 WHEREAS, Both Edward and Doris took part in the school 4 and extracurricular activities of their children by serving 5 as adult leaders in Scouting and cheering on their children 6 and grandchildren at athletic events; and 7 WHEREAS, Doris and Edward are active participants at the 8 Cathedral Parish in Springfield, where Doris serves as a 9 Kindergarten Aide and Edward volunteers in the school 10 lunchroom and other school activities; and 11 WHEREAS, Edward and Doris Drea are the loving parents of 12 Edward Joseph (wife, Lori), Timothy Edward (wife, Elizabeth), 13 and Tama Lynn; the grandparents of Trevor, Tiffany, Brandon, 14 Bradley, Andrew and Bridget; and great-grandparents of Gavin; 15 and 16 WHEREAS, The respect for marriage reaches one of its 17 highest plateaus when a couple such as Edward and Doris 18 celebrate their golden anniversary; and 19 WHEREAS; Edward and Doris Drea stand as examples of the 20 best of our society, and their love and devotion to each 21 other and to their family and friends serve as a reminder to 22 all that hard work, dedication, and love can make a 23 difference in today's world; therefore, be it 24 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY- 25 THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 26 congratulate Edward and Doris Drea on the occasion of their 27 fiftieth wedding anniversary; that we commend them for 28 achieving a long and happy marriage, blessed with children 29 and grandchildren and rich in friendships and that we wish 30 them happiness and good health in the future; and be it 31 further -3- LRB093 11955 KEF 16441 r 1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 2 presented to Edward and Doris Drea as an expression of our 3 respect and esteem.
