093_HR0304 LRB093 11779 KEF 15759 r 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, Our Nation's rich cultural diversity reflects 3 our Constitution's core vision of freedom and justice for 4 all; throughout our history, Asian/Pacific Americans have 5 made great contributions to America's heritage and 6 prosperity; during the month of May, we proudly celebrate 7 Asian/Pacific Americans, one of the fastest growing ethnic 8 group in the United States, for their remarkable role in our 9 Nation's development; and 10 WHEREAS, Through the years, Asian immigrants and Pacific 11 Islanders have enriched the American way of life; Nobel Prize 12 winner Dr. Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar's groundbreaking 13 theories on the evolution of stars helped lay the foundation 14 for modern astrophysics; actress Anna May Wong was one of the 15 first Asian Americans to achieve great fame in American film; 16 the men of the 100th Infantry Batallion and the 442nd 17 Regimental Combat Team, composed primarily of Asian/Pacific 18 Americans, valiantly served our Nation during World War II; 19 these units are remembered as some of the most highly 20 decorated in United States military history; and 21 WHEREAS, During the observance of Asian/Pacific American 22 Heritage Month, we celebrate the cultural traditions, 23 ancestry, native languages, and unique experiences 24 represented among the more than 30 ethnic groups from Asia 25 and the Pacific found here in the United States; we also 26 recognize millions of Asian/Pacific Americans whose love of 27 family, hard work, and community has helped unite us as a 28 people and sustain us as a Nation; and 29 WHEREAS, To honor the achievements of Asian/Pacific 30 Americans, the Congress, by Public Law 102-450, as amended, 31 has designated the month of May each year as "Asian/Pacific 32 American Heritage Month"; therefore, be it -2- LRB093 11779 KEF 15759 r 1 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 2 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 3 we proclaim the month of May as Asian/Pacific American 4 Heritage Month and call upon the citizens of this State to 5 learn more about the history of Asian/Pacific Americans and 6 how they have contributed so much to our national heritage 7 and culture.
