Pierce on his 4 retirement as Mayor of Highland Park; and 5 WHEREAS, Mr. Pierce served as Mayor of Highland Park from 6 1987 to 1995 and from 1999 to 2003; and 7 WHEREAS, He is a graduate of New Trier Township High 8 School; he received degrees from Harvard College and Harvard 9 Law School; and 10 WHEREAS, Mr. Pierce served as an officer in the United 11 States Air Force during the Korean conflict; and 12 WHEREAS, Mr. Pierce is a former State Representative for 13 the 32nd District; as a State Representative from 1965 to 14 1985, he served as Chairman of the House Revenue Committee, 15 the Mental Health Investigating Committee, the Energy and 16 Environment Committee, the Illinois Economic Fiscal 17 Commission, and the Energy Resources Commission; he also 18 served on the House Public Utilities Committee; he served as 19 House Minority Whip for two terms; during his legislative 20 career, he was named "Outstanding Legislator of the Year" by 21 the Independent Voters of Illinois, the U.S. Environmental 22 Protection Agency (Region V), the Illinois Association for 23 Exceptional Children, the Chicago Audubon Society, and the 24 Federation of Independent Colleges and Universities of 25 Illinois; he served as Vice President and Board Member of 26 Illinois Municipal League and Lake County Municipal League, 27 and was co-chairman for the Fort Sheridan Joint Planning 28 Committee; before becoming Mayor, he presided as a hearing 29 officer for the Illinois and Interstate Commerce Commissions; 30 and 31 WHEREAS, Mr. Pierce is a retired partner of the law firm -2- LRB093 11676 KEF 15568 r 1 of Altheimer & Gray; and 2 WHEREAS, Mr. Pierce is past chairman of Public Utilities 3 and Real Estate Tax Committees of the Chicago Bar 4 Association; he is a member of the Government Affairs 5 Committee, the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago, and 6 the Chicago Chapter of the American Technion Society; he also 7 serves on the Board of Directors for the Highland Park 8 Hospital and Highland Park Community Foundation; and 9 WHEREAS, Mr. Pierce and his wife Rhoda have five children 10 and three grandchildren; therefore, be it 11 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 12 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 13 we congratulate Daniel M. Pierce on his retirement after many 14 years of exemplary public service and wish him good health 15 and happiness in all of his future endeavors; and be it 16 further 17 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 18 presented to Daniel M. Pierce as an expression of our respect 19 and esteem.
