093_HR0262 LRB093 11580 KEF 14859 r 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives wish to recognize Nick Norris of Beverly on 4 rising above his classmates for a position that requires the 5 best in physical strength, mental sharpness, and moral 6 fortitude; and 7 WHEREAS, Nick Norris, the son of Carol and Herb Norris, 8 was one of the 16 candidates to enlist in a training/entrance 9 exam program for the SEAL program, the Navy's most 10 prestigious special-operations group; he will move to 11 California this summer to undergo training; and 12 WHEREAS, Testing for these 16 academy allocations begins 13 with a field of about 400 midshipmen; the field is then 14 narrowed to about 50 midshipmen, then they are invited to 15 Coronado, California for in-depth workouts; from this, the 16 16 academy slots are chosen; at Coronado, Nick Norris placed 17 first in the obstacle course, which is one of the largest in 18 the armed services; and 19 WHEREAS, Nick now attends the United States Naval Academy 20 in Annapolis, Maryland; for two years he played on the 21 academy's rugby team, and during the summer he entered and 22 graduated from the Navy's underwater dive and jump schools; 23 and 24 WHEREAS, Nick will receive his commission in May, and he 25 will report for training on June 14; he will spend 26 approximately one to one-and-a-half years in various training 27 regiments before being assigned to a platoon; therefore, be 28 it 29 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 30 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 31 we congratulate Nick Norris on being chosen as one of the 16 -2- LRB093 11580 KEF 14859 r 1 candidates to enlist in the training/entrance exam for the 2 SEAL program and wish him well in all his future endeavors; 3 and be it further 4 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 5 presented to Nick Norris with our respect and esteem.
