093_HR0202 LRB093 11471 HSS 14575 r 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of 3 the State of Illinois were saddened to learn of the death of 4 Sergeant Bradley S. Korthaus, United States Marine Corps, of 5 Davenport, Iowa on Monday, March 24, 2003; and 6 WHEREAS, Sergeant Korthaus died while valiantly serving 7 his country in Operation Iraqi Freedom; he was a member of 8 the Peoria-based, C Company, 4th Support Service Group, 6th 9 Battalion; and 10 WHEREAS, Sergeant Korthaus was born on May 19, 1974 in 11 Davenport to Steven Bruce and Marilyn Kay Smeaton Korthaus; 12 he graduated in 1992 from Assumption High School in 13 Davenport, where he participated in football, wrestling, 14 soccer, and tennis; and 15 WHEREAS, Following graduation, he pursued his dream of 16 becoming a United States Marine; he served four years of 17 active duty and was stationed in various parts of the world, 18 and he participated in Operation Restore Hope in Somalia; and 19 WHEREAS, Sergeant Korthaus had been employed by Ryan & 20 Associates, Inc.; he was an apprentice and was posthumously 21 awarded Honorary Journeymen status; he was a member of Holy 22 Family Catholic Church, Plumbers & Pipefitters Union - Local 23 25, Pheasants Forever, and Ducks Unlimited; and 24 WHEREAS, The passing of Sergeant Korthaus has been deeply 25 felt by many, especially his parents, Steve and Marilyn 26 Korthaus; his brother, Drew Korthaus and his fiancee, Angela 27 Miller; his fiancee, Barbi Schneckloth; his grandmothers, 28 Marietta Smeaton and Ruby Korthaus; and his many aunts, 29 uncles, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it 30 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 31 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that -2- LRB093 11471 HSS 14575 r 1 together with his friends, family, and this great nation, we 2 mourn the passing of Sergeant Bradley S. Korthaus, United 3 States Marine Corps, and we extend to them our deepest 4 sympathy; and be it further 5 RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Sergeant Korthaus 6 and his willingness to serve our country, which led to him 7 making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further 8 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 9 presented to the family of Sergeant Bradley S.
