093_HR0181 LRB093 11347 HSS 13472 r 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of 3 the State of Illinois were saddened to learn of the death of 4 Richard L. "Dick" Budde of Joliet on Wednesday, March 12, 5 2003; and 6 WHEREAS, Mr. Budde was born on a farm in Jackson Township 7 to Leo and Ida (nee Wilhelmi) Budde; he was a lifelong Joliet 8 area resident; he graduated from Joliet Catholic High School 9 and Lewis University; he and his wife Marilyn, the Joliet 10 Township Clerk, were married for 45 years; and 11 WHEREAS, Mr. Budde valiantly served his country in the 12 United States Air Force during the Korean War as a medic in 13 Iceland; in the 1960s, he was an investigator with the U.S. 14 Civil Service Commission; he monitored elections and voter 15 registration in the South; and 16 WHEREAS, Mr. Budde had served on the Will County Board 17 since 1982 and was most recently re-elected to a four year 18 term in November; he first entered politics as a precinct 19 committeeman and he also served as Democratic Minority 20 Leader; and 21 WHEREAS, During his service on the Will County Board, Mr. 22 Budde earned the reputation of "County Watchdog" for his 23 practice of persistent questioning concerning County Board 24 issues; and 25 WHEREAS, Mr. Budde worked as a residential and commercial 26 realtor for over 30 years in Joliet, most recently with 27 Coldwell Banker Honig Bell Realty; he was a member of the 28 Will County Board of Realtors and its Committees on 29 Professional Standards and Legislation; he was a member of 30 the American Legion Post #1080 and the Knights of Columbus 31 Council #12014; he was an usher at St. Paul the Apostle -2- LRB093 11347 HSS 13472 r 1 Catholic Church and a former board member for United Cerebral 2 Palsy of Will County and the Elks Lodge #296; he was an avid 3 bass fisherman; and 4 WHEREAS, The passing of Mr. Budde has been deeply felt by 5 all who knew him, especially his wife, Marilyn J. Budde; his 6 four sons, Michael (Terri), Daniel (Vickie), Thomas 7 (Juliann), and Kurt Budde; his seven grandchildren, Rachel, 8 Sean, Zachary, Lauren, Allison, D.J., and Jack; and his 9 sister, Sylvia (Mackey) Norman; therefore, be it 10 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 11 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 12 we mourn the passing of Richard L. "Dick" Budde and extend to 13 his family and friends our sincere condolences; and be it 14 further 15 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 16 presented to the family of Richard L. "Dick" Budde as an 17 expression of our deepest sympathy.
