093_HR0148 LRB093 11320 KEF 13702 r 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives 3 would like to congratulate our long-time colleague Joel 4 Brunsvold as he retires from his position as State 5 Representative for the 72nd Representative District; and 6 WHEREAS, Representative Brunsvold was born on February 7 26, 1942 in Mason City, Iowa; he married Barbara Bashaw in 8 1964 and has two sons, Timothy and Theodore; and 9 WHEREAS, Joel Brunsvold graduated from Rock Island High 10 School in 1960; he attended Blackhawk College, Western 11 Illinois University, and Newton College; he received a 12 Bachelor of Arts in 1964 from Augustana College; and 13 WHEREAS, Joel Brunsvold taught in the Sherrard Community 14 Unit District 200 from September 1969 until February 1983; 15 and 16 WHEREAS, He was first elected to the Illinois House of 17 Representatives in November of 1982; he has held the 18 positions of Assistant Majority Leader and Democratic Caucus 19 Chairman; during his tenure in the House, he served as 20 chairman of Elementary and Secondary Education committee and 21 as chairman of the Cities and Villages, Constitutional 22 Affairs, and Agricultural and Conservation committees; he 23 also served on the House committees for Environment and 24 Energy, Insurance, Judiciary II, and Registration and 25 Regulation; and he was appointed Vice Chairman to the 26 Governor's Council on Health and Physical Fitness and for the 27 Illinois Prairie State Games; and 28 WHEREAS, Prior to his legislative service, Joel Brunsvold 29 served two terms as mayor of the Village of Milan and was a 30 trustee for the Village; he was also appointed to the 31 Bi-State Metropolitan Planning Commission; and -2- LRB093 11320 KEF 13702 r 1 WHEREAS, He is Chairman of the Illinois Legislative 2 Sportsmen's Caucus and the Illinois Democratic Sportsmen's 3 Alliance; in addition, he belongs to the Milan Rotary, 4 Pheasants Forever, and Ducks Unlimited; and 5 WHEREAS, Representative Brunsvold has received numerous 6 awards including but not limited to being named Outstanding 7 Legislator of the Year by the Illinois State Rifle 8 Association, the Illinois Health Care Association, and the 9 Safari Club International; he has received the Defender of 10 Freedom Award from the National Rifle Association and has 11 also been recognized for his outstanding efforts on behalf of 12 education; he is an honorary member of the Fire Fighters 13 Association; he has received a presidential citation from the 14 Illinois Association of Health and Physical Education, and 15 has the appreciation of the people of Rock Island County for 16 his leadership in providing their enhanced 9-1-1 emergency 17 phone system; and 18 WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure this body has learned 19 that Governor Rod Blagojevich announced the appointment of 20 Joel Brunsvold as the new director of the Department of 21 Natural Resources; therefore, be it 22 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 23 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 24 we thank our good friend Joel Brunsvold for his hard work and 25 dedication to the people of the 72nd Representative District 26 and to the State and wish him well in his new position; and 27 be it further 28 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 29 presented to Representative Joel Brunsvold as an expression 30 of our respect and esteem.
