093_HR0088 LRB093 10998 KEF 11754 r 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives would like to recognize Kent Williams of Mt. 4 Vernon, for his many successes in his basketball career; and 5 WHEREAS, Kent Williams attended Mt. Vernon Township High 6 School where he starred on the basketball team; some of his 7 high school basketball accomplishments are: he is the 8 school's all-time leading scorer with 2,183 points and holds 9 the single game record for the Coca Cola Shootout in St. 10 Louis with 48 points; for three years he was named the 11 Southern Illinois Player of the Year, and he was named to 12 the All State Team for two years; he was also the runnerup in 13 Illinois for "Mr. Basketball"; and 14 WHEREAS, Throughout his Southern Illinois University 15 Saluki Basketball career he has started every game for four 16 years; he was named Newcomer of the Year and Freshman of the 17 Year by the Missouri Valley Conference; during his sophomore 18 year, he was Second Team All Conference and in his junior 19 year made First Team All Conference; in addition, he was 20 named Missouri Valley Conference Scholar and Athlete of the 21 Year; he is the second all-time scorer at SIU; and 22 WHEREAS, Kent Williams will graduate in May with a degree 23 in Marketing and his long-term goal is to pursue a 24 professional basketball career; and 25 WHEREAS, The date of February 22, 2003 has been 26 designated as Kent Williams/Mt. Vernon Day at the SIU 27 Salukis' game to be held on that day; the game will be aired 28 by ESPN and many citizens from Mt. Vernon and surrounding 29 communities will attend in support of the Salukis as well as 30 Kent Williams; therefore, be it 31 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE -2- LRB093 10998 KEF 11754 r 1 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 2 we congratulate Kent Williams on his many successes and wish 3 him well in all of his future endeavors; and be it further 4 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 5 presented to Kent Williams with our regards.
