093_HR0075 LRB093 10693 KEF 11058 r 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Alvin 4 W. Britton of Chicago on January 26, 2003; and 5 WHEREAS, Mr. Britton was the fifth child of eight 6 children and was born on July 25, 1938 in Chicago to Emma 7 Louise Blake and Homer C. Britton Sr.; and 8 WHEREAS, On March 7, 1959, Mr. Britton and Joan 9 Lillybridge were united in holy matrimony and from this 10 union, there were two children born, Anthony and Alvina; and 11 WHEREAS, Mr. Britton was educated at Douglas Elementary 12 School and DuSable High School; he earned an Associates 13 Degree in 1960 from Wilson Junior College; in 1971, he 14 received a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from the 15 University of Illinois at Chicago; during the spring of 1981, 16 he joined the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity; his commitment to 17 learning did not end there, he went on to receive a Juris 18 Doctorate from LaSalle University, and he was a member of the 19 National Conference of Black Lawyers (N.C.B.L.); he completed 20 his academic education in 1991 with an Adjunct Professor of 21 Law Degree from LaSalle University; and 22 WHEREAS, Mr. Britton's professional career included 23 thirty years with the Chicago Police Department, several 24 years as one of the Administrative Assistants to the late 25 Alderman Loraine Dixon, and his most current position was 26 Supervisor of Investigators in the Public Defender's Office; 27 and 28 WHEREAS, His passing will be deeply felt by all of his 29 friends and family, especially his lovely wife, Joan; his 30 son, Anthony (Lisa); his daughter, Alvina; his granddaughter, 31 Staci (Terrance); his grandson, Tony; his two -2- LRB093 10693 KEF 11058 r 1 great-grandchildren; his mother, Emma Louise Britton; his 2 sisters, Lois (Charles), Darlene (Robbie), Loretta (James), 3 and Lilly (John); and his many nieces, nephews, and cousins; 4 and 5 WHEREAS, Mr. Britton was preceded in death by his father, 6 Homer C. Britton Sr.; and three of his siblings; therefore, 7 be it 8 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 9 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 10 we mourn the death of Alvin W. Britton, along with all who 11 knew and loved him, and extend our sincerest condolences to 12 his family and friends; and be it further 13 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 14 presented to the family of Alvin W. Britton as an expression 15 of our sympathy.
