093_HR0054 LRB093 06470 HSS 06593 r 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of 3 the State of Illinois were saddened to learn of the death of 4 Catherine Lewis Collins of North Chicago on Wednesday, 5 December 25, 2002; and 6 WHEREAS, Catherine Lewis Collins was born on November 2, 7 1935 in Helena, Arkansas to Frank and Cora Lewis; at the age 8 of five, her family moved to Waukegan; she attended Carmen 9 Elementary School and graduated from Waukegan Township High 10 School; she was baptized by Reverand J.N. Lightfoot at Shiloh 11 Baptist Church; and 12 WHEREAS, Mrs. Collins was employed as the City Clerk of 13 North Chicago, where she was serving her tenth elected year; 14 previously, she was employed with the Federal Government for 15 33 years before her retirement; and 16 WHEREAS, Mrs. Collins was an active and energetic civic 17 leader involved in several community and social organizations 18 including Coordinating Council for Gang Awareness, 19 Alternative Programs for Community Youth, Lake County Baptist 20 Children and Family Service Advisory Board, Parent Anonymous 21 Workshop Focus on Child Abuse, NAACP, and others; she 22 spearheaded Mothers Against Gangs, Concerned Parents and 23 Citizens Organizations, and many others; and 24 WHEREAS, The passing of Catherine Lewis Collins has been 25 felt by many, especially her husband, Norman C. Collins Sr.; 26 her son, Garth (Sabrina) Collins; her daughters, Kristy 27 (Todd) Davis and Lori L. Collins; her stepsons, Norman 28 (Leona) Collins Jr. and Dennis Collins; her grandchildren, 29 Garth Collins Jr., Candace Collins, Taylor Davis, and Kennedy 30 Collins; her sisters, Ernestine (Harold) Fisher and Nancy 31 Wilkerson; her nieces, Pamela (Anthony) Cowan and Tracy 32 Glover; her nephews, Harold (Denise) Fisher Jr., Michael -2- LRB093 06470 HSS 06593 r 1 Cannon, Kenneth Cannon, and Keith and Gregory Reynolds; and 2 many cousins, other relatives, and dear friends; therefore, 3 be it 4 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 5 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 6 we join with family and friends and mourn the passing of 7 Catherine Lewis Collins, who will be remembered as a loving 8 wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who 9 continually strived for a better life for Illinois youth; and 10 be it further 11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 12 presented to the family of Catherine Lewis Collins with our 13 deepest sympathy.
