093_HR0049 LRB093 07278 KEF 07437 r 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives would like to congratulate Tony Cork for 4 being inducted into the Illinois Track and Cross Country 5 Coaches Association Hall of Fame; and 6 WHEREAS, Mr. Cork received a Bachelor's degree from 7 Millikin University in 1969 and a Master's degree in History 8 in 1972; he received a Ph.D. in Secondary Education from 9 Indiana State University in 1978; and 10 WHEREAS, Mr. Cork started his career at Robinson High 11 School in 1969 teaching history and helping coach the track 12 team; in 1977 he became boys head track coach and has held 13 that position for the past 26 years; in addition, he has been 14 the boys and girls cross country coach for the past 20 years; 15 and 16 WHEREAS, Throughout his career with the Robinson High 17 Maroons, Coach Cork has led the boys track team to an 18 outstanding record of success including: winning the 1978 19 IHSA Class A State Meet, finishing in the top 11 in the State 20 Meet four other years, and winning 17 Class A sectional 21 titles; his teams hold 6 individual State Championships and 22 one relay State Championship, and Coach Cork has had numerous 23 athletes advance to the State finals; the Maroons have a 24 career record in dual/triangular/quadrangular meets from 25 1977-2002 of 251 wins and 3 losses and also hold a State 26 record of 225 straight winning dual/triangular/quadrangular 27 meets from 1976-1999; and 28 WHEREAS, As the head coach of both the boys and girls 29 cross country teams since 1983, he has led the teams to a 30 combined 22 IHSA Class A regional titles, and a combined 6 31 IHSA Class A sectional titles; he has sent the boys team to 32 the State Finals for 13 consecutive years, and the girls have -2- LRB093 07278 KEF 07437 r 1 advanced to the State Finals 8 times; both teams have placed 2 in the top 10 at State finals; and he had produced 84 3 All-Apollo Conference runners; and 4 WHEREAS, Tony Cork's enthusiastic contribution of his 5 time and talent has richly benefited the students of Robinson 6 High School and their community; therefore, be it 7 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 8 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 9 we congratulate Tony Cork on his induction into the Illinois 10 Track and Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame and 11 wish him well in all of his future endeavors; and be it 12 further 13 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 14 presented to Tony Cork as an expression of our respect and 15 esteem.
