093_HR0029 LRB093 04628 HSS 05985 r 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of 3 the State of Illinois are pleased to recognize significant 4 events in the lives of citizens of the State; and 5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Niva 6 Lubin-Johnson, M.D., FACP is retiring from her position on 7 the Board of Trustees of Chicago State University; and 8 WHEREAS, Dr. Lubin-Johnson received her Bachelor of 9 Science in Pharmacy from Creighton University and her medical 10 degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, 11 where she was distinguished as a member of the last class to 12 finish within a three-year time frame; she completed internal 13 medicine residency at St. Joseph's Hospital in Chicago and 14 has been in private practice for more than 13 years; and 15 WHEREAS, Dr. Lubin-Johnson is currently a senior 16 attending physician at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, 17 associate attending at Advocate Trinity Hospital, and a 18 clinical instructor at the University of Illinois; she has 19 participated on several boards and committees at both 20 hospitals; and 21 WHEREAS, Dr. Lubin-Johnson serves on the National Medical 22 Association Board as Chair of the House of Delegates 23 Committee on Administrative and Financial Affairs; she is a 24 past Speaker of the House of Delegates of the National 25 Medical Association and past President of the Chicago and 26 Illinois Chapters of the National Medical Association; and 27 WHEREAS, Dr. Lubin-Johnson was appointed to the Board of 28 Trustees of Chicago State University by Governor Jim Edgar in 29 1996 and was reappointed by Governor George Ryan in 1999; she 30 has served as Vice-Chair Presidential Search Committee, Chair 31 of the Finance Committee, and is completing her second year -2- LRB093 04628 HSS 05985 r 1 as Chair of the Board of Trustees; and 2 WHEREAS, Dr. Lubin-Johnson has lectured extensively and 3 has been the recipient of numerous awards; she will celebrate 4 25 years as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; she 5 is a member of Trinity United Church of Christ and its Church 6 in Society Ministry; she is married to Joseph Johnson and 7 they reside on the south side of Chicago; she credits her 8 parents, Benjamin and Peggy Lubin for demonstrating how hard 9 work and community service are necessary for a successful and 10 fulfilled life; therefore, be it 11 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 12 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 13 we commend Dr. Niva Lubin-Johnson on her years of service 14 with the Board of Trustees of Chicago State University and 15 congratulate her on her retirement; and be it further 16 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 17 presented to Dr. Niva Lubin-Johnson with our best wishes for 18 her continued success and happiness and as a token of our 19 respect and esteem.
