Amends the Sex Offender Registration Act. Extends the period of registration for a misdemeanant sex offender from 10 years to 15 years and the period of registration for a felony sex offender from 10 to 20 years.

| AN ACT concerning sex offenders.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Sex Offender Registration Act is amended by |
5 |
| changing Section 7 as follows:
|

| (730 ILCS 150/7) (from Ch. 38, par. 227)

| Sec. 7. Duration of registration. A person who has been |
8 |
| adjudicated to
be
sexually dangerous and is later released or |
9 |
| found to be no longer sexually
dangerous and discharged, shall |
10 |
| register for the period of his or her natural
life.
A sexually |
11 |
| violent person or sexual predator shall register for the period |
12 |
| of
his or her natural life
after conviction or adjudication if |
13 |
| not confined to a penal institution,
hospital, or other |
14 |
| institution or facility, and if confined, for
the period of his |
15 |
| or her natural life after parole, discharge, or release from
|
16 |
| any such facility.
Any other person who is required to register
|
17 |
| under this Article shall be required to register for a period |
18 |
| of 15
10 years after
conviction or adjudication if not confined |
19 |
| to a penal institution, hospital
or any other
institution or |
20 |
| facility, if the sex offense for which the sex offender is |
21 |
| required to register is a misdemeanor or 20 years if the sex |
22 |
| offense for which the sex offender is required to register is a |
23 |
| felony, and if confined, for a period of 15
10 years after
|
24 |
| parole, discharge or release from any such facility if the sex |
25 |
| offense for which the sex offender is required to register is a |
26 |
| misdemeanor or 20 years if the sex offense for which the sex |
27 |
| offender is required to register is a felony . A sex offender |
28 |
| who is
allowed to leave a county, State, or federal facility |
29 |
| for the purposes of work
release, education, or overnight |
30 |
| visitations shall be required
to register within 10 days of |
31 |
| beginning such a program. Liability for
registration |
32 |
| terminates at the expiration of 15
10 years from the date of
