Amends the Counties Code. Allows the sheriff of any county, with the approval
of the county board and in cooperation
with the chief judge of the circuit in which that county is located, to
implement a pilot program providing for the
conduct of status hearings through interactive video conferences. Provides that
the sheriff shall report to the Governor and to the
General Assembly concerning the use, costs, effectiveness, and future viability
of
interactive video conferences for status hearings.

| AN ACT concerning video conferencing.

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Counties Code is amended by adding Section |
5 |
| 3-6040 as follows:
|

| Sec. 3-6040. Interactive video conference pilot program. |

| In order to
eliminate the burden of transporting prisoners to |
9 |
| other locations for status
hearings, the sheriff of any county, |
10 |
| with the approval of the county board and
in cooperation with |
11 |
| the
chief judge of the circuit
in which that county is located, |
12 |
| may implement a pilot program
providing
for the conduct of |
13 |
| status hearings through interactive video conferences.
Within |
14 |
| 6
months after the implementation of the pilot program, the |
15 |
| sheriff shall report
to the
Governor and to the General |
16 |
| Assembly regarding the use, costs, effectiveness,
and future |
17 |
| viability of interactive video conferences for status |
18 |
| hearings.
