| AN ACT concerning conservation.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Illinois Conservation Enhancement Act is |
5 |
| amended by changing
Section 1-2 as follows:
|

| (505 ILCS 35/1-2) (from Ch. 5, par. 2401-2)

| Sec. 1-2. Purpose and policy. This Act creates 2 major |
8 |
| programs,
the Save Illinois Topsoil Program and the Illinois
|
9 |
| Natural Resource Enhancement Program. It is the purpose of this |
10 |
| Act that
certain marginal agricultural land is
be kept or taken |
11 |
| out of crop
production
or pasture to protect soil and water |
12 |
| quality and to protect and support
fish and wildlife habitat. |
13 |
| It is State policy to encourage the retirement
of marginal, |
14 |
| highly erodible agricultural land, particularly land adjacent
|
15 |
| to public waters and drainage systems, from crop production and |
16 |
| to
reestablish a cover of perennial vegetation in order to |
17 |
| conserve, protect
and enhance important water and land |
18 |
| resources.
