1 | AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 5995

2 | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 5995 by replacing | ||||||
3 | everything after the enacting clause with the following:

4 | "Section 5. The Illinois Public Aid Code is amended by | ||||||
5 | adding Section 12-4.4a as follows: | ||||||
6 | (305 ILCS 5/12-4.4a new) | ||||||
7 | Sec. 12-4.4a. Food stamp program; waiver to determine food | ||||||
8 | that may be purchased in Illinois; public health policy. The | ||||||
9 | Secretary of Human Services shall seek a waiver from the United | ||||||
10 | States Department of Agriculture to allow the State to specify | ||||||
11 | foods that may and may not be purchased in Illinois with | ||||||
12 | benefits funded by the federal Food Stamp Program. The | ||||||
13 | Secretary shall consult with members of the General Assembly in | ||||||
14 | developing the waiver and must obtain the approval of the | ||||||
15 | General Assembly prior to implementing the waiver. The | ||||||
16 | Department of Human Services, in consultation with the | ||||||
17 | Department of Public Aid and the State Board of Education, | ||||||
18 | shall develop a broad public health policy related to improved | ||||||
19 | nutrition and health status. ".
