Amends the Department of State Police Law of the
Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Provides that, upon
the request of the chief of a fire department or the board of trustees of a fire protection district (now, upon the request of the chief of a volunteer fire department), the Department shall
conduct criminal background investigations of prospective firefighters and
report to the requesting chief any record of convictions maintained in the
Department's files about those persons.

| AN ACT concerning public safety.

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Department of State Police Law of the
Civil |

| Administrative Code of Illinois is amended by changing Section |
6 |
| 2605-330 as follows:
|

| Sec. 2605-330. Firefighter background investigations. Upon
|
9 |
| the request of the chief of a volunteer fire department or the |
10 |
| board of trustees of a fire protection district , the Department |
11 |
| shall
conduct criminal background investigations of |
12 |
| prospective firefighters and
report to the requesting chief any |
13 |
| record of convictions maintained in the
Department's files |
14 |
| about those persons. The Department may charge a fee, based
on |
15 |
| actual costs, for the dissemination of conviction information |
16 |
| under this
Section. The Department may prescribe the form and |
17 |
| manner
for requesting and furnishing conviction information |
18 |
| under this Section.
