Amends the Crime Victims Compensation Act. Provides that a victim
of a crime of violence shall be treated equally with any other victim of a
crime of violence. Provides that any compensation under the Act may not
be reduced or denied to a victim because of his or her race, color, creed,
national origin, sex, sexual orientation, or opinion on the death penalty.
Effective immediately.

| AN ACT in relation to crime victims.

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |

| represented in the General Assembly:

| Section 5. The Crime Victims Compensation Act is amended by
|
5 |
| adding Section 6.2 as follows:
|

| (740 ILCS 45/6.2 new)
|

| Sec. 6.2. Crime victims; equal treatment. A victim of a |
8 |
| crime of
violence shall be treated equally with any other |
9 |
| victim of a crime of
violence. Any compensation under this Act |
10 |
| may not be reduced or denied
to a victim because of his or her |
11 |
| race, color, creed, national origin, sex,
sexual orientation, |
12 |
| or opinion on the death penalty.

| Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
14 |
| becoming law.
