| AN ACT in relation to the regulation of professions.

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Illinois Dental Practice Act is amended by |
5 |
| changing Section
8.1 as follows:
|

| (225 ILCS 25/8.1) (from Ch. 111, par. 2308.1)

| (Section scheduled to be repealed on January 1, 2006)

| Sec. 8.1.
Permits for administration of general anesthesia |
9 |
| or parenteral
conscious sedation.
No licensed dentist shall |
10 |
| administer general anesthesia or
conscious sedation without |
11 |
| first applying for and obtaining a
permit for such purpose from |
12 |
| the Department. The Department shall issue
such permit only |
13 |
| after ascertaining that the applicant possesses the
minimum |
14 |
| qualifications necessary to protect public safety. A person |
15 |
| with a
dental degree who administers anesthesia or conscious |
16 |
| sedation
in an
approved
hospital training program under the |
17 |
| supervision of either a licensed
dentist holding such permit or |
18 |
| a physician licensed to practice medicine in
all its branches |
19 |
| shall not be required to obtain such permit.
