 1        AN ACT to create the Gender-Neutral Statutes Commission.

 2        Be it enacted by the People of  the  State  of  Illinois,
 3    represented in the General Assembly:

 4        Section  1.   Short  title.  This Act may be cited as the
 5    Gender-Neutral Statutes Commission Act.

 6        Section 5.  Commission.
 7        (a)  The Gender-Neutral Statutes Commission  is  created,
 8    to  consist  of  one member appointed by the President of the
 9    Senate, one member appointed by the Senate  Minority  Leader,
10    one   member  appointed  by  the  Speaker  of  the  House  of
11    Representatives,  and  one  member  appointed  by  the  House
12    Minority Leader.
13        (b)  Members  of  the   Commission   shall   receive   no
14    compensation,  but may be reimbursed for expenses incurred in
15    the course of their service to  the  Commission  out  of  any
16    moneys available for that purpose.

17        Section 10.  Duties; report.
18        (a)  The Gender-Neutral Statutes Commission shall consult
19    with  the  Legislative  Reference Bureau and other interested
20    parties on  the  fiscal  impact  and  other  consequences  of
21    undertaking  a  comprehensive  effort  to  make  the Illinois
22    Compiled Statutes gender neutral.
23        (b)  The Gender-Neutral Statutes Commission shall  report
24    its findings to the General Assembly by January 15, 2004.

25        Section  99.  Effective date.  This Act takes effect upon
26    becoming law.
