 1        AN ACT in relation to the regulation of professions.

 2        Be it enacted by the People of  the  State  of  Illinois,
 3    represented in the General Assembly:

 4        Section  5.  The Barber, Cosmetology, Esthetics, and Nail
 5    Technology Act of 1985 is amended by changing  Section  3-7.1
 6    as follows:

 7        (225 ILCS 410/3-7.1) (from Ch. 111, par. 1703-7.1)
 8        (Section scheduled to be repealed on January 1, 2006)
 9        Sec.  3-7.1.  Inactive  Status; restoration from inactive
10    status.    Any   cosmetologist,   cosmetology   teacher,   or
11    cosmetology clinic teacher who  notifies  the  Department  in
12    writing  on  forms prescribed by the Department, may elect to
13    place his or her license on an  inactive  status  and  shall,
14    subject  to  rules of the Department, be excused from payment
15    of renewal fees until he or she notifies  the  Department  in
16    writing of his or her desire to resume active status.
17        Any  cosmetologist,  cosmetology  teacher, or cosmetology
18    clinic teacher requesting restoration  from  inactive  status
19    shall  be  required  to  pay  the  current renewal fee and to
20    qualify for the restoration of his or her license, subject to
21    rules of the Department.  A license  shall  not  be  restored
22    from  inactive  status  unless the cosmetologist, cosmetology
23    teacher,  or  cosmetology  clinic  teacher   requesting   the
24    restoration  completes  the  number  of  hours  of continuing
25    education required for renewal of  a  license  under  Section
26    3-7.
27        Any  cosmetologist,  cosmetology  teacher, or cosmetology
28    clinic teacher whose license is in an inactive  status  shall
29    not practice in the State of Illinois.
