093_HB2981eng HB2981 Engrossed LRB093 04086 AMC 04126 b 1 AN ACT concerning the regulation of professions. 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 3 represented in the General Assembly: 4 Section 5. The Acupuncture Practice Act is amended by 5 changing Section 40 as follows: 6 (225 ILCS 2/40) 7 (Section scheduled to be repealed on January 1, 2008) 8 Sec. 40. Application for licensure. Applications for 9 original licensure as an acupuncturist shall be made to the 10 Department in writing on forms prescribed by the Department 11 and shall be accompanied by the required fee, which shall not 12 be refundable. 13 Until December 31, 2001, applicants shall submit with the 14 application proof of passing the National Certification 15 Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental MedicineNational16Commission for the Certification of Acupuncturists17 examination or a substantially equivalent examination 18 approved by the Department or meeting any other 19 qualifications established by the Department. 20 On and after January 1, 2002, the Department shall issue 21 a license to an applicant who submits with the application 22 proof of each of the following: 23 (1)(A) graduation from a school accredited by the 24 Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental 25 MedicineNational Accreditation Commission for Schools26and Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicineor a 27 similar accrediting body approved by the Department; or 28 (B) completion of a comprehensive educational program 29 approved by the Department; and 30 (2) passing the National Certification Commission 31 for Acupuncture and Oriental MedicineNational CommissionHB2981 Engrossed -2- LRB093 04086 AMC 04126 b 1for the Certification of Acupuncturists'examination or a 2 substantially equivalent examination approved by the 3 Department. 4 An applicant has 3 years from the date of his or her 5 application to complete the application process.
