 1        AN ACT concerning video conferencing.

 2        Be  it  enacted  by  the People of the State of Illinois,
 3    represented in the General Assembly:

 4        Section 5. The Counties Code is amended by adding Section
 5    3-6040 as follows:

 6        (55 ILCS 5/3-6040 new)
 7        Sec. 3-6040.  Interactive video conference pilot program.
 8    In order to eliminate the burden of transporting prisoners to
 9    other locations for  status  hearings,  the  sheriff  of  any
10    county,  with  the  approval  of  the  county  board  and  in
11    cooperation with the chief judge of the circuit in which that
12    county  is  located,  may implement a pilot program providing
13    for the conduct of status hearings through interactive  video
14    conferences.  Within 6 months after the implementation of the
15    pilot program, the sheriff shall report to the  Governor  and
16    to   the   General   Assembly   regarding   the  use,  costs,
17    effectiveness, and  future  viability  of  interactive  video
18    conferences for status hearings.
