 1        AN ACT in relation to counties.

 2        Be  it  enacted  by  the People of the State of Illinois,
 3    represented in the General Assembly:

 4        Section 5.  The Counties  Code  is  amended  by  changing
 5    Section 1-2001 as follows:

 6        (55 ILCS 5/1-2001) (from Ch. 34, par. 1-2001)
 7        Sec.  1-2001.  Petition for transfer of territory. When a
 8    majority of the legal voters, residing  upon  any  territory,
 9    not  less  than half of one congressional township, petitions
10    shall petition the county board of their own county, and also
11    of the county to which  they  desire  such  territory  to  be
12    transferred,  for leave to have such territory transferred to
13    such county, it shall be  the  duty  of  the  several  county
14    boards so petitioned to certify the proposition to the proper
15    election  officials,  who  shall  submit  the  question  at a
16    referendum in their respective counties  in  accordance  with
17    the general election law.
