SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Lawrence K. "Larry" Tumulty, who
4passed away on February 22, 2026; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Larry Tumulty, the son of John and Rose Donath
6Tumulty, was born in Springfield on May 22, 1935; he served in
7the United States Army in Korea from 1955 to 1957; he married
8Beverly J. "Bev" Runkels at the Cathedral of the Immaculate
9Conception in Springfield on October 23, 1965; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Larry Tumulty joined the Springfield Police
11Department in 1962, retiring as a detective in 1987 after 25
12years of service; after a brief retirement, he returned to
13city employment to serve as chief of security at City Water,
14Light, and Power (CWLP); after retiring again, he and his
15wife, Bev, moved to Athens; to combat restlessness, he
16proceeded to serve as a doorman for the Senate at the State
17Capitol, where he worked for several years until the COVID-19
18pandemic occurred; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Larry Tumulty was a diehard Illini fan and a
20lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan; in retirement, he and Bev
21loved going to casinos and taking destination gambling trips;

1    WHEREAS, Larry Tumulty was known for his sweet tooth and
2his tender heart for all animals, with many homeless and
3unwanted animals finding a forever home after crossing paths
4with him; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Larry Tumulty was preceded in death by his
6parents; ten siblings; and his granddaughter, Emma Rose
7Hesson; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Larry Tumulty is survived by his wife of 60
9years, Bev; his children, Brad (Diana) Skinner, Kelly (Neal)
10Tisdale, and Jennifer (Steve) Hesson; his grandchildren,
11Morgan (Michael) Kilberg, Mitchell (Avery) Wendling,
12Matthew(Emily) Wendling, Nathan Hesson, and Ella Hesson; and
13several nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Lawrence K. "Larry" Tumulty and extend our sincere condolences
17to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
18it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Larry Tumulty as an expression of
21our deepest sympathy.
