| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of Kevin Schoeplein of Bluffton, South | ||||||
| 4 | Carolina, who passed away on March 27, 2026; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Kevin Schoeplein, the son of Wilfred and Mary | ||||||
| 6 | Mangan Schoeplein, was born in Cleveland, Ohio on July 22, | ||||||
| 7 | 1953; he graduated from St. Edward High School in Lakewood, | ||||||
| 8 | Ohio; he attended Saint Louis University, and he earned | ||||||
| 9 | master's degrees in finance and hospital administration from | ||||||
| 10 | Xavier University; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Kevin Schoeplein initially worked at St. | ||||||
| 12 | Elizabeth Hospital in Dayton, Ohio; he began serving as an | ||||||
| 13 | assistant hospital administrator for OSF HealthCare (OSF) in | ||||||
| 14 | Peoria, Illinois in 1978, retiring as CEO of OSF in 2017; | ||||||
| 15 | during his nearly four-decade tenure, he was instrumental in | ||||||
| 16 | the development of OSF as an Accountable Care Organization, | ||||||
| 17 | oversaw the expansion of OSF from seven to eleven hospitals, | ||||||
| 18 | and helped lead the system to national recognition as a | ||||||
| 19 | top-performing health care system; and | ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, Kevin Schoeplein was a member of St. Thomas | ||||||
| 21 | Church, where he served on the parish council; he served on the | ||||||
| 22 | boards of several organizations, including the Illinois | ||||||

| 1 | Hospital Association, the Catholic Health Association, Bradley | ||||||
| 2 | University, and David Vaughan Investments; and | ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Kevin Schoeplein was a devoted husband, father, | ||||||
| 4 | and grandfather; he was known for his calm demeanor, | ||||||
| 5 | thoughtful nature, and his rare gift for making those around | ||||||
| 6 | him feel valued, supported, and loved; and | ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Kevin Schoeplein was preceded in death by his | ||||||
| 8 | parents and his brothers, Chuck and Jim; and | ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Kevin Schoeplein is survived by his wife of 47 | ||||||
| 10 | years, Lisa (Brandewie) Schoeplein; his children, Stacie | ||||||
| 11 | (fiance, Jack Negro) Clayton, Molly (Jeff) Ziegler, Chris | ||||||
| 12 | (Tami) Schoeplein, Ashley (Adam) Gagnon, and Matt (Brittany) | ||||||
| 13 | Schoeplein; 13 grandchildren; and his siblings, Karen and Don; | ||||||
| 14 | therefore, be it | ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 16 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 17 | Kevin Schoeplein and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
| 18 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
| 19 | further | ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 21 | presented to the family of Kevin Schoeplein as an expression | ||||||
