| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Diane Rose Doherty, who passed away on |
| 4 | | July 14, 2025; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Diane Doherty, early in her career, served on the |
| 6 | | faculty of Georgetown University at the National Center for |
| 7 | | Education in Maternal and Child Health in Washington, D.C.; |
| 8 | | and |
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Diane Doherty was also an adjunct faculty member |
| 10 | | at the graduate school of Social Services at Catholic |
| 11 | | University in Washington, D.C., during which time she worked |
| 12 | | with homeless women at Mt. Caramel House in D.C.; and |
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Diane Doherty became executive director of the |
| 14 | | Illinois Hunger Coalition (IHC) in 1996, and over the years, |
| 15 | | she received many awards and accolades for her tireless |
| 16 | | advocacy at all levels of government for programs and policies |
| 17 | | working to reduce hunger; and |
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Diane Doherty and IHC accepted the Dr. Raymond |
| 19 | | Wheeler/Senator Paul Wellstone Anti-Hunger Advocacy Leadership |
| 20 | | Award from the Food Action and Research Center in 2019, an |
| 21 | | honor historically given to an advocacy group and its |

| 1 | | leadership for demonstrating outstanding leadership in the |
| 2 | | fight against hunger in America; and |
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Diane Doherty founded New Endeavors by Women, a |
| 4 | | nonprofit that focuses on housing and supporting homeless |
| 5 | | women; and |
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Diane Doherty was also a founding board member of |
| 7 | | the National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty and the |
| 8 | | Grassroots Collaborative, a coalition of organizations |
| 9 | | dedicated to racial and economic equity; and |
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Diane Doherty was a fierce advocate and kind |
| 11 | | colleague whose work created positive change across Illinois, |
| 12 | | and she will be remembered for serving as a role model for |
| 13 | | anti-hunger advocates throughout the nation; and |
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Diane Doherty was preceded in death by her |
| 15 | | parents, William Doherty and Rosemary (Crot) Doherty, and her |
| 16 | | brother, William Doherty Jr.; and |
| 17 | | WHEREAS, At the time of her passing, Diane Doherty was |
| 18 | | survived by her sisters, Donna (Kevin) Kane and Mary Debra |
| 19 | | Doherty, and her nephew and nieces, Kevin Michael (Carrie) |
| 20 | | Kane, Megan (Mike) Kane Towle, Kara (Jim) Kane Sullivan, and |
| 21 | | Maire Rose Maloney; therefore, be it |

| 1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL |
| 2 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 3 | | Diane Rose Doherty and extend our sincere condolences to her |
| 4 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it |
| 5 | | further |
| 6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 7 | | presented to the family of Diane Doherty as an expression of |
| 8 | | our deepest sympathy. |
